Social Media, Literature & TV - Why They Hate Us.

Maybe it's normal, but I don't remember there being so many anti-Catholic books out there. 

I'm an avid reader, so yesterday's trip to the library had me looking for some religious books to read through. I found 762 options to choose from under the keywords "Catholic" & "Religious".  Jumping page to page, I began to realize... none of them were about saints or by a saint. None of them were about past popes. None of them were instructive or helpful. Instead, every single book was either a fiction/non-fiction that hated Catholics, a fiction about a romance (between a priest & a nun, or a priest and a woman, or a nun and a man), or titled "Pope Francis: Modern Church". They mention the "rigidity" of traditional Catholicism, and the pure "nonsense" of believing in the Body and Blood of Christ.

Of course, this angered me, so I moved on to searching by title for a few I knew I wanted. 

"The Interior Castle" - Nope.

"The Flowers of St. Francis" - Nope.

I decided on a new method. I'd search by AUTHOR. Surely there would be some result?

"Fulton Sheen" - Nope.

"Pope John Paul II" - Nope.

Now I was livid. "The only thing they probably have is the bible" I said to myself.

I found the Q'uran, Mein Kampf, King James, the Torah, a book about buddhism, and even one about the power of crystals. Yet not ONE Catholic bible. I did however, find a sign pointing to a whole section of the "Dan Brown" novels.

Moving on to Tv. I flipped through History channel last week. I was watching a special on Egyptians (a favorite subject of mine) and left the channel on after it finished. As I was cleaning around my room,  and I heard the words "Catholicism has been the cause of evil in this world". Obviously, I turned to look at the television, and there was a special on for TWO HOURS, dedicated to disproving the faith. This isn't unusual. We see more and more shots being taken at our expense on sitcoms, dramas, etc... and people don't say a word.

Social Media?  I don't think I really need to expand on this one, except to say:

Search "Catholic" or "Traditional Catholic" on any social media site, and you'll spend hours reading hate filled, vile messages and jokes about the faith. 

The real question is... why?

A few weeks ago my priest had a homily on how the Catholic Church is consistently attacked. By Hollwood, by the media, literature... and I don't think it really sunk in until now. They hate the true presence. They hate that it withstood the test of time. They hate traditional values, moral values. They think everyone should do whatever they want, as long as it makes them happy. They push the abortion of innocent babies, homosexual marriage, transexual mutilation... all while condemning us for DARING to think that they are despicable.  They hate us because they know we're not going away. 

So what can we do?

1) We can pray the rosary. 

2) We learn our faith and defend it. 

3) We stay close to Christ.

Those are the three most important things. 

Let's all make sure we hold each other to this standard. If we continue to let the world corrupt our hearts, and leaders of the Church... there won't be any Catholic's left to defend Her.
